Using Your Gmail Account as an SMTP Server

Using Gmail as your SMTP server allows you to send emails through your Gmail account using various email clients or applications. Follow these steps to set up your Gmail account as an SMTP server.

Prerequisites

A Gmail account.
Access to your Gmail account settings.
The application or email client where you want to configure SMTP.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Go to Google Account.
Select "Security" from the left-hand menu.
Under "Signing in to Google," select "2-Step Verification."
Follow the on-screen instructions to enable 2FA.

Step 2: Generate an App Password

Go to the App Passwords page.
Sign in to your Google account if prompted.
Select "Select app" and choose the app you’re using (e.g., Mail).
Select "Select device" and choose the device you’re using (e.g., Windows Computer).
Click "Generate."
Copy the 16-character app password. You’ll use this password in place of your regular Gmail password when configuring the SMTP server.

Step 3: Configure SMTP Settings in PerkZIlla

Use the following SMTP server settings for Gmail:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587 (TLS) or 465 (SSL)
Username: Your full Gmail address (e.g., yourname@gmail.com)
Password: The 16-character app password generated in Step 2

If your account has the REMOVED BRANDING ADDON, You can remove the "powered by PerkZilla" branding from your widgets, forms and landing pages directly from your profile.

Go to Whitelabel Settings

Toggle ON Hide Widget Branding

How to Create an App Password for Yahoo Mail

To use the Yahoo Mail SMTP server, you first need to create a dedicated app password. Earlier, you could use your Yahoo Mail password, but Yahoo updated this requirement to improve security. Now, you need to generate a unique app password.

Thankfully, generating a Yahoo Mail app password is pretty straightforward. To get started, go to your account settings area and then click on the Account Security tab.

You can access your account settings area by clicking on your username/icon in the top-right corner. Or, you can click this link to go straight to the account security area (as long as you’re logged in to Yahoo Mail already).
